Guatemala Social Worker Ruth Laurente joined World Orphans in 2018. In her role, Ruth works closely with vulnerable families to prevent children from becoming orphaned and encourage the family unit to thrive. She enjoys having the opportunity to counsel both parents and children in this role. Additionally, Ruth has the opportunity to encourage churches to take care of families within their communities in response to the care of God and the knowledge that God welcomes us into his family. Ruth’s social work education and extensive background in counseling makes her the ideal person to fulfill this role, as she has counseled high-risk young adults, homeless adolescents, and local students.
Ruth met her husband, Salvador, while studying at Central American Theological Seminary. Together, they are eager to serve God, showing gratitude for all he has done. Salvador is currently completing his theological studies with the goal of planting a new church in the future. When Ruth isn’t working, you may find her participating in sports or board games, watching movies, or playing with her nephews.
