Chris and Lauren's Story
Meet Chris Turpaud, World Orphans Guatemala Economic Empowerment Coordinator, and Lauren Turpaud, Guatemala Church Partnership Coordinator. This dynamic couple joined World Orphans in September 2015. As World Orphans Economic Empowerment Coordinator for Guatemala, Chris’ main goal is to empower and encourage local businesses and artisans to become financially self-sustaining. This is being accomplished through community savings groups, youth savings programs, and a store that sells merchandise made by men and women from some of the poorest areas of the city.
Lauren provides our primary link to AMG Guatemala and she loves seeing Christ embodied in the relationship between the US and Guatemalan churches as she serves to facilitate growth and a deeper understanding of each other's cultures. Together, they coordinate World Orphans teams that travel to Guatemala, lead and disciple team members, and work alongside the Guatemalan pastors and AMG staff to care for the families in Home Based Care. A highlight of their role is submersion in Guatemala’s beautiful culture and learning more about the country and people they are serving.
Lauren holds a bachelors degree in human development and family studies and was formerly a program manager for a nonprofit that worked to empower adults with special needs. Chris holds a bachelors degree in construction management and was an assistant superintendent for a paving company. The Turpauds have been married since 2012 and already have had countless adventures. They enjoy everything about being outdoors: swimming, skiing, biking, backpacking, climbing, and hiking.
