Maria, 16, was raised by her three older siblings after their mother abandoned them at an early age. Unfortunately, the family could only stay together for a short time before financial difficulties forced them apart.
Maria was then sent to live in a government orphanage. Before she graduated at age 16, Maria attended a summer camp at a World Orphans partner home.
At the camp, Maria played sports, met some girls who lived in the church’s transition home and heard the name of Jesus for the first time.
After the week ended, Maria decided to move out of the orphanage and into the transition home.
Though she had heard the gospel at camp, she actually experienced the love of Christ in the home and accepted Jesus as her savior.
Maria is currently enrolled high school classes, enjoys playing soccer and basketball and loves to spend time with her new “sisters.”
Her older siblings visit her regularly and encourage her to continue her education.

Thousands of children like Maria are receiving help from our partner churches in 14 different countries. But without the support of our generous donors, these projects could not survive.
This holiday season, World Orphans needs 300 individuals or families who will commit to giving $33 a month to help children like Maria and others that you will learn about during these 33 days. Will you help World Orphans give the gift of hope to these children?
