Orphaned by the earthquake, Lancia cared for by older brother & local church

Lancia, left, enjoys a meal with her church family

Twelve-year-old Lancia has a bright smile and eyes that light up when you look into them − eyes that are joyful despite losing her father in January’s earthquake in Haiti and being left an orphan.

Today she lives with her older brother and six others in a one-room home with a dirt floor, tarp walls and a tin roof. Lancia is one of 20 orphans being supported by her church and their western partner. Through her church she gets medical care, food, trauma counseling and an education.

She will proudly show guests the simple home, filled with two cots and a table, and her school backpack that is hung by her bed.

“I pray for God to give me strength to go to school and church, and pray to Him every day,” said Lancia.

Thousands of children like Lancia are receiving help from our partner churches in 14 different countries. But without the support of our generous donors, these projects could not survive.

This holiday season, World Orphans needs 300 individuals or families who will commit to giving $33 a month to help children like Lancia and others that you will learn about during these 33 days. Will you help World Orphans give the gift of hope to these children?

As a way of thanking you for your support we’ll send you a free gift. (More details.)

I am an Advocate for Compassion International and on behalf of my church I would like to find a project in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, or Haiti that partners both with World Orphans and Compassion International. If you know of such a project would you please send me the name of the church and where it is located? Thanks.
